Yorks

At last we tackle the area where we can see drovers' roads, wide and straight, carved across the landscape centuries ago; where the climate is tougher so the men & women tougher still; where roads are described as 'Celtic', in other words pre-Roman; where to find a reference to a road from Littleborough to Barlings in Lincolnshire referred to as 'Old' in 1323.

It appears that Yorkshiremen (and Scots) drove cattle as soon as they walked.  Everything is on  a huge scale: the skies are wider, the roads longer...  Here is the Big Country.
